Baby Basic’s goals are centered around helping to educate families, find balance in their individual homes and empowering parents to make confident choices for parenting their children. What makes Baby Basics different is the one-on-one approach, ongoing support, and practical strategies that can be maintained long-term.

Megan Tucker, is a registered nurse, certified lactation consultant, certified Moms On Call consultant and certified childbirth instructor with two decades of experience in women’s health (particularly high risk perinatal and infertility), home health, lactation, and patient education.

Baby Care Basics Prenatal Education ClassThis approximately 1 hour class is recommended before your baby arrives. This class dives into baby care and is designed to provide parents with everything they need to know about bringing baby home. What to expect: -Finding a pediatrician -What to pack for your newborn -What to expect during your hospital stay -When to call your MD (signs of illness) -Bottle feeding techniques -Burping -Soothing techniques -Reading your baby’s cues (hungry, tired, bored and more) -How to take baby’s temperature -Nail clipping -Bathing -Diapering/diaper cream -Tummy Time -Swaddling and more!

CPR/Safety Class Prenatal Education ClassThis approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hour class covers topics no new parent wants to think about, but avoiding an emergency could be life changing for your family and baby. What to expect: -Instruction in CPR and choking -Tips to avoid choking incidents -Room-by-room review of your home to address possible safety hazards -Car seat tips and vehicle safety -This class, based on American Red Cross standards, is ideal for parents, grandparents, nannies, caregivers, or anyone that may be taking care of your child. *Please note: Baby Basics does not provide CPR certification.

Breastfeed Preparation Prenatal Education ClassThis approximately 2 hour class is offered in the comfort of your own home. If you only have time for one class before the birth of your baby this one is a must take about 8 weeks before your due date. What to expect: -Breastfeeding techniques, such as latching, holds and positions -The anatomy and physiology of breast milk production and breastfeeding -How to know if baby is getting enough -Pumping strategies -What to expect in the first few days after your baby is born -What if things don’t go as planned -How to balance breastfeeding when returning to work -Breast milk collection, storage and feeding guidelines

Childbirth Preparation Prenatal Education ClassEach labor is entirely different and you cannot plan for every scenario, BUT… in this approximately 3 hour class, we will walk through each stage of labor, through your enire hospital stay all the way to discharge home. Our hope is to prepare you for what will come and hopefully ease your worries as they relate to the labor, delivery and postpartum processes and provide you with the tools needed to have a safe and successful birth no matter what it looks like. Full Newborn or Toddler Consultations: Moms On CallAre you struggling with feeling out of balance with your family? Maybe not getting enough sleep or your routine seems off? Maybe you don’t have a routine and would like help establishing one. Infant Sleep Consultation: Moms On CallWhat to expect: Lack of sleep can take its toll on the entire family. If you feel your family is out of balance (and out of steam!), Baby Basics is here to help. For some, it’s the stress of a chaotic bedtime routine that is anything but peaceful and enjoyable. For others, it’s multiple night time wakings that have them feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. Many know what they NEED to do but don’t know HOW to get there. Megan Tucker, certified Moms On Call consultant and infant/toddler sleep specialist, will meet you where you are–your comfort levels with sleep spaces, crying/fussing, your parenting philosophies and each family’s unique schedule to get you sleeping (or just back on track). For previously well rested families, we offer mini-consultations as all you need is a reset. For families that have never been quite able to get into a good rhythm, full sleep consultations are available.
